Classes Outside of AWHS

Taking Courses Outside of Archie Williams

High School

If you would like to take a class off-campus, please read through the information below BEFORE you enroll. Please keep in mind that no more than 20 credits of the total credits required for graduation may be earned through alternative methods. Families are responsible for registering and paying for the class. If you choose to take a class for original credit outside of our district, or make-up a D or F grade, you must follow these directions:

  1. The course must be taken from a WASC-accredited institution that issues an official transcript for credit and grade earned.
  • If the course you are repeating is necessary for college entrance requirements it is your responsibility to ensure that the course is UC/CSU approved. Go to the UC A-G Course List Search and enter the name of the school you are thinking about taking your course from. Next, confirm the class you intend to enroll in is listed.
  • If you are considering college-level sports in the future, make sure the course is NCAA-approved.
  • Students will not receive an extra point in their AWHS G.P.A for community college courses or Honors/AP courses that are not offered at AWHS.
  1. If the course is a graduation requirement (not an elective class), you will need prior approval by the principal. Please fill out the Request for High School Credit for Alternative Coursework form before enrolling in the course. Please allow one week for processing time.
  2. If approval is granted, the transcript should be sent to AWHS and must be received two weeks prior to the end of the semester. All courses in progress for seniors must be completed and the transcript received on or before May 31.
  3. If the course is not a graduation requirement or is an elective, it will not be added to your AWHS transcript and students do not need principal approval. Students will need to submit separate transcripts to colleges to show the grade earned in the outside institution.

We are unable to recommend any particular online programs/private schools for enrichment, remediation or other purposes. For your convenience, below is a list of schools/institutions that other students have used in the past. AWHS does not endorse any of these schools and the list is not exhaustive.
