FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions – AP Exams
Registration
Why shouldn’t I use my school email for my College Board account?
School-issued emails are deactivated after graduation. If you forget your login, College Board will send a reset email to the address on file and you’ll need to access that account. Use a personal email so you’ll still have access after you leave AWHS.
Where do I get my Join Codes?
Join Codes are given out in AP classes and are also included in your Total Registration confirmation. They are subject-, teacher-, and period-specific.
Do I have to take the AP exam if I’m enrolled in the class?
No. You can choose not to take the exam, but you must indicate this in your College Board My AP account by the registration deadline.
Is financial assistance available?
Yes. Families who qualify can request financial aid during the Total Registration process. You may also contact Luz at ldiazrodriguez@tamdistrict.org for more information.
What if I miss the registration deadline?
Please come talk to Luz or Nate in the Assistant Principal's office for more information.
Accommodations (SSD)
I have an IEP/504 plan. Do I automatically get extended time on AP exams?
No. Only students pre-approved by the College Board’s Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) program may use accommodations on AP exams. Having an IEP or 504 at school does not automatically grant AP accommodations since we are independent from College Board.
How do I apply for accommodations?
Families must submit a request directly to College Board’s SSD program. This includes the Student Eligibility Form and supporting documentation. Processing can take up to 7 weeks, so please start early! You can find more information about the process on our district website HERE.
Does the school submit the request for me?
No. Families are responsible for submitting all accommodation requests to College Board. The district and school do not submit requests on behalf of students.
When is the deadline to request accommodations for AP exams?
For May 2026 AP exams, requests must be submitted to College Board by January 16, 2026 (national deadline).
Scheduling & Testing
Can I change when I take my AP exam?
No. Exam dates and times are set by College Board nationwide and cannot be changed. If you have two exams scheduled at the same time, notify Luz or Nate immediately to arrange late testing.
Where do I report for my exams?
Exam locations will be shared with students closer to May. You will receive details by email and from your AP teachers.
What if I’m late to my exam?
Students must arrive by 7:45 AM for morning exams and 11:45 AM for afternoon exams. Late arrivals may not be admitted and are not eligible for a makeup exam unless approved by College Board.
How long are AP exams?
Most exams last 3–4 hours including breaks. Afternoon exams may extend past the end of the school day.
Test Day Policies
What should I bring on test day?
Bring a photo ID, #2 pencils (non-mechanical), blue/black pens, an approved calculator (if applicable), and a snack/water for break. See the Test Day Information section for the full list.
Do I need my College Board login on test day?
Yes. Students must be able to log in to their College Board account. Please make sure you know your username and password before test day. We will provide school laptops for exam check-in. Students will not be able to use personal devices on the school WiFi.
Can I bring my phone to the exam?
No. Phones, smartwatches, and other electronics are not permitted. All devices will be collected at check-in and returned after the exam.
Where can I find the calculator policy?
See College Board’s Calculator Policy for approved models.
